How do I close a Mastercard credit card? Anyone done this?

All I want to do is close my Mastercard account. I called MC and the idiot told me that I would have to write a letter. This cannot be accurate. Does Mastercard have a website or this support agent the “B squad” and mistaken on procedure?

The account they should be able to waive the phone fee all you please waive that just say can you get on the bank of america.
